Jupiter, Florida -- The River Center was recently named a 2010 Nonprofits Going Green winner and awarded $1,500 from the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties for "The Most Green with the Least Green". The River Center incorporates many energy and water saving practices as well as sustainability practices such as composting into its daily operations. Visitor education about ways that they too can go "green" is another top priority.
The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties "Nonprofits Going Green" program works to recognize and assist nonprofits transitioning to environmentally sustainable practices. The goals of the overall Nonprofits Going Green Program include to raise awareness, capacity, motivation within the nonprofit community in Palm Beach and Martin Counties to improve the environmental sustainability of their operations and to raise public and corporate awareness and support for the nonprofit community.
These funds will be used toward furthering the River Center's green practices and programs, as well as it's education outreach. Located at Burt Reynolds Park in Jupiter, The River Center presents an exciting exploration of the Loxahatchee River and features some of the areas largest aquatic aquariums and displays. Three-dimensional presentations lead guests through the river's unique habitats, colorful history, diverse wildlife, and explain the river's environmental value to our community. Guests of all ages have the opportunity to learn where their water comes from, how it is consumed and how it is recycled back into the environment and the community. There are multi-media and live aquatic exhibits, and even a touch tank filled with aquatic life.
The River Center is located at 805 North U.S. Highway One in Jupiter.
