General Information

Best Advanced Secondary Wastewater Treatment Facility, State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Phelps Awards

One of the most important tasks of the District over the past 30 years has been the elimination of septic tanks in our region, which pose a persistent threat to the environment. To date, over 85% of the 60,000 homes in our service area are served by the regional sewer system, and we are working to develop sewer installation programs for the remaining neighborhoods located in the urban areas.

Where geography allows, gravity sewers have been installed. In low lying areas with high water tables and restricted construction, low pressure systems which operate with individual pumping units at each home have been installed.

2015 Night on the Loxahatchee: River Rhapsody
In the waning light of day on July 10, 1860, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse flashed its guiding beacon out across the seas for the first time. The completion of the lighthouse not only signaled a new era of safe navigation, but also served as a central point for a wide variety of communication technologies that helped turn the region from a sparsely populated “end of the line” settlement into a vibrant community living off the bounty of resources along the Loxahatchee River and Atlantic coast. It is only fitting then that this period of growth during the late 19th Century will be showcased at this year’s highly anticipated Night on the Loxahatchee fundraiser to benefit the River Center.
